Career & Technical Education Philosophy Statement

SRVRTCAs part of Stevens High School (SHS), the Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center - Claremont (SRVRTC) shares the School Mission and Expectations for Student Learning.

In support of the SHS mission, the SRVRTC provides programs that focus on the integration of cognitive, occupational, and life skills.

The goal of the SRVRTC is to prepare students to function responsibly and productively in the workplace, as citizens and as lifelong learners.

Career & Technical Education programs at the SRVRTC provide students the opportunity to explore, study, practice, master and demonstrate the skills needed for employment.

Additionally, all classes throughout the SRVRTC allow students to investigate related careers through internships, job shadows, coop opportunities, Career and Technical Student Organizations, guest speakers and site visitations.

Career & Technical Education classes at the SRVRTC:

  • Are appropriate for students regardless of their race, gender, ability, creative talents, or career aspirations
  • Provide students with insight into their own interests and abilities
  • Prepare students for entry into the workforce and continuing education
  • Equip students with the information necessary to make appropriate consumer and career choices
  • Integrate current technology applications throughout all course offerings
  • Enhance critical thinking skills through authentic problem-solving activities
  • Reinforce academic concepts as they relate to Career & Technical Education

Career & Technical Student Organizations

All programs provide students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills through Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSO's). Students learn how to plan, organize and conduct meetings, develop and manage long term projects such as fundraising drives and community service events, and participate in regional and national competitions. Active CTSO's in Claremont include: FBLA and SkillsUSA


National Technical Honor Society

Student excellence in Career & Technical programs is recognized through application and membership in the National Technical Honor Society. This organization encourages higher scholastic achievement, cultivates a desire for personal excellence, and helps top students find success in today's highly competitive workplace.
